Dana White had publicly stated that Jon Fitch was the number one contender for the Welterweight title.

Jon Fitch will be putting his sterling 17-2 record on the line when he takes on one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world in St. Pierre. Fitch is undefeated in his eight UFC fights, most recently scoring a unanimous decision victory against Chris Wilson at UFC 82 - Pride of a Champion. He has beat some very solid competition during his stint in the UFC, including Thiago Alves, Josh Burkman and Diego Sanchez. That's an impressive resume, and Fitch is surely deserving of a shot against Georges St. Pierre.

A product of American Kickboxing Academy, Fitch was awarded his Guerilla jiu-jitsu black belt by Dave Camarillo, the founder Brazilian jiu-jitsu.
